Here is another popular 1940s theme  - although today's standards would be consider it to be politically incorrect.
This appears to be a cannibal head, complete with bakelite bones in the hair.  The bones are attached with plastic coated cording.  The brass beads the comprise the necklace are strung on string.

 This pin is similar in quality and design to the other pin (which is positively identified as Martha Sleeper in the magazine article). We feel strongly that it could be one of her wooden pins.
